Before You Buy a Whole House Ventilation System, Check Out These Tips

Before You Buy a Whole House Ventilation System, Check Out These TipsIf you want to have control over the climate inside your home, installing the right whole house ventilation system is crucial. Ventilation controls the pressure, and thus airflow, in and out of your property. Since the Arizona desert has very hot summers, having a ventilation system that improves cooling efficiency and effectiveness should be one of your top priorities. There are several different kinds of whole house ventilation systems to choose from, each with their own pros and cons. These include exhaust, balanced, supply, heat-recovery and energy-recovery.

There’s a lot of information to cover about these types of ventilation systems, so we’ve simplified everything a bit by giving you some basic tips to consider when choosing a system that is right for your home. You should:

  • Consider short versus long-term costs. An exhaust type system is relatively cheap and easy to install, so you can save some money upfront. It may, however, increase your heating and cooling bills over time, negating any savings of the installation. Also, an exhaust system is best for cold climates.
  • Evaluate your need for removing dust and pollen from the air. If you or someone in your home has allergies, choosing a system that will filter the outside air well will improve your quality of life. A supply system is great for getting rid of pollutants, but it may cause moisture problems during the winter.
  • Find out if your local HVAC professional has the tools and experience to install the kind of system you want. Heat-recovery and energy-recovery ventilators can be difficult to install, so finding a contractor that can handle the job may be difficult. They also require more regular maintenance.
  • Think about the noise. Ventilation fans can be really noisy, especially the ones that operate at intermittent high speeds. Continuous, low speeds are best.

With these tips, you’re on your way to finding the perfect ventilation solution. For more expert advice about climate control and other issues related to your home comfort, please contact us at Rite Way Ventilating Company. We’ve been proudly serving Tuscon and the surrounding areas since 1959.

Excessive Moisture on Your Windows Could Be a Warning Sign

Excessive Moisture on Your Windows Could Be a Warning SignWhen you see moisture on your windows, the first thought is something must be wrong with the windows. The fact is that the problem may not be the window at all. The windows in your home are just the most convenient place for the warm air to get rid of the moisture or humidity it has been holding. Warm air can hold more moisture than cooler air. When that warm air hits something cool like walls or windows, condensation forms and causes moisture on your windows and other surfaces. It is the same thing that makes you need a coaster for your cold drink. Read More »
